Cute & Creepy Android Games Week – 3 for Free!

Cute & Creepy Android Games

When we think of “cute” we probably think of Nintendo’s Miitomo or maybe we think of fat little angry birds being mean to piggies. When we think of “creepy” we probably think of dolls, clowns, and that weirdo that keeps looking at you on the bus. Put them together and we have a mix that’s sure to bring a smile to your face and keep you busy for hours. This week we wanted to focus on “Cute & Creepy Android Games” with our selection. We offer three apps with screenshots and reviews. If you don’t want to sift through commentary, just scroll down to the “GET IT NOW ON GOOGLE PLAY!” links below each entry and call it a day.

“All I remember is that night… The dark dragon has closed the gate to the sun. And light vanished. All living creatures became dark… Only carrying what’s left behind… the eternal pain. In the darkness that has lost light… True dark action begins.”

We really like this title. The gameplay might be a bit routine for some but that all changes once you start fighting tougher enemies. The layout is simple with an emphasis placed on being able to pick this up and go. The design might be called lacking by some but if we’re dealing with casual games or something you might use to kill time as you wait in line somewhere then there is no reason to go all out on something that is going to be rendered very small. Another great feature with the design is they’re using silhouettes for a reason. Mobile phones today are pretty powerful but in order to make a game that looks and feels smooth, developers need to make concessions with what gets cut and what gets left in. In this case, the graphics run very well on most phones. Although we love some eye candy it would be a shame not to play something fun just because our phones aren’t up to snuff.

MildMania

[Price: Free w/ in-app purchases]

“Darklings stole all the stars from the world which is an essence of light and brought Darkness. Join Lum to purge the Darklings. Experience unique gesture driven gameplay blended with awesome noire artwork carrying the touch based games to a whole new level. Save the stars, save the world. Darkness is coming! Darklings is an epic endless adventure through magical worlds. Lum, face of light, tries to save the world by purging the darklings and retrieve the stars. Play as the face of light, Lum, only piece of hope left on the universe, and purge all the Darklings to their pits, and begin to save the world!”

Darklings was a cross between the tiny little guys on the comic witchblade and casper the friendly ghost’s brothers. It feels a lot like Tim Burton was the inspiration behind this but regardless of how it came to be we love it. From the cute noises the darklings make to the eerie music that you just can’t get tired of we think this is well worth any money you might pump into it as you progress. The game utilizes your touchpad as much as possible so using a stylus might be a better option for you, especially if you have a larger phone. Download it today and give it a spin.

Glu

[Price: Free w/ in-app purchases]

“Welcome to Festerville, population 4,206 (mostly zombies). We hope you enjoy your visit: explore the town, take in the sights and sounds (mostly groaning), dine on whatever you can find, and get to know the locals (though we suggest you avoid the dead ones). For recreation, try zombie combat: use what you find, or visit one of the town’s many weapon-crafting merchants for your choice of the finest hand-scavenged implements of zombie removal. If you decide to stay, we recommend you find one of our relatively comfortable safe houses – but please remember to board the windows and doors. Have fun, and good hunting.”

This one was interesting. We didn’t expect it to be bad because… well… Glu. They make titles that are always a lot of fun. It being a free-to-play game we expect some parts to require some sort of real money to make the journey easier. With the amount of gameplay development that must have went into this title and not charging people upfront we expect many people to throw a few bucks their way if only for the thank you. The character modeling is something from Flash animation it seems with a heavy influence from graphic novels and today’s animated shorts on cable. It’s sure to provide hours of fun because it gets pretty addictive after you get through the first couple of episodes.

Afterword

Titles and descriptions are subjective. We might get flamed for not including this or that on each of these weekly posts but the point isn’t so much that we want to give you the absolute best because of graphics or any other such technical category. We enjoy these titles each week because… well… they’re fun. That’s all that really matters… right?
