The Best Insurance Apps for Android (in the U.S.)
Insurance is a part of life in the United States. It’s not a fun part of life, but like death, taxes and Rocky movies, it’s inevitable. Whether you own a home or rent, you need some sort of insurance to protect your valuables. Car insurance is required in almost every state of the union, and after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, you can be fined for not purchasing some form of health insurance every year.
Of course, while insurance is a requirement just to function in modern American society, figuring out where to get it and the best prices for it can be notoriously difficult. Then there’s the issue of keeping track of your policy and filing a claim. Thankfully, there are several Android apps out there to help you obtain insurance and keep track of what you’ve insured. These are the best insurance apps you can download right now.
PROGRESSIVE
Car insurance companies are notoriously competitive with each other in the U.S., constantly trying to undercut each other’s prices by a few cents and attempting to be more accessible than their rivals. All of the major car insurance companies have apps on Google Play, but the best the insurance app and highest rated is the Progressive app. It lets you easily get in touch with your agent, pay your bill, update your policy and access your insurance cards, which can be a real life saver if you get pulled over and don’t have printed copies on you. But that’s pretty standard functionality whether you go with Progressive, Allstate, Geico, or another major car insurance company. You really can’t go wrong with any of their apps, but the Progressive app slightly edges out its rivals thanks to its clean and easy-to-use interface.
HOME GALLERY
If disaster strikes your home, oftentimes the biggest bar to getting insurance to cover your claim is lack of documentation for your destroyed possessions. Just telling an insurance agent about the painting worth thousands of dollars that was destroyed in a fire isn’t going to be enough to sustain your claim, you need documentation from the very start about it. The Home Gallery app by Liberty Mutual is one of the best insurance apps on Google Play because it lets you easily catalog your possessions. You can move from room-to-room scanning bar codes, taking pictures, and adding details about your belongings so that you know exactly what you have and how much it’s worth. Unfortunately, the one downside to this app is that there’s no cloud support at the moment, which seems like a huge design flaw. But you can convert the information to PDF and manually upload it to the cloud. Whether or not you’re insured with Liberty Mutual, this is pretty much a must-have app for anyone with a lot of insured valuables.
METLIFE INFINITY
This app is by insurance company MetLife, but it doesn’t actually help you find insurance or keep tack of a policy. It’s more of a “final goodbye” for after you pass on. You can upload pictures, documents and videos to be released at a later point in time, or designate someone to do so when your account is marked inactive. Technically, this could be used to leave a will after you die, but most states are hesitant to recognize video wills, let alone a last will and testament transmitted through app posthumously, so it would really only be useful for a final parting message. Most people don’t like to think about what’s going to happen once they pass on, so it’s unsurprising that the app doesn’t have too many installs, but it works well enough, and it’s an interesting idea if there’s information you only want to release to certain people after you’ve left this earthly realm.
GOODRIDE BY ALLSTATE
GoodRide by Allstate is similar to a lot of other apps for vehicle insurance in that it lets you easily call for roadside assistance, but what makes GoodRide unique and one of the best insurance apps on Android is its focus on motorcycles. The app lets you track the route, miles and time of your ride, and post it to social media sites. Plus, you can check the weather forecast for your route, and use the app to keep track of maintenance for your bike. If you’re planning to take your bike on a long ride, there aren’t any better options to get you to your destination. It’s such a useful app, that it’s amazing an insurance company hasn’t made a version devoted to cars.
IN CONCLUSION
Getting insurance and keeping up with your claims isn’t a fun process. No matter which company you go through, it’s a time-consuming process, but at least these apps make it a little bit easier to deal with insurance companies.
